New Minister chosen for John Knox

Gavin Niven is to be the new minister of John Knox Parish Church.

Gavin led worship at a packed service after which the congregation voted to elect him.

Gavin, who is originally from Glasgow, was a manager with Royal Bank of Scotland in Edinburgh before being accepted as a candidate for the ministry.

After gaining his Divinity degree at Edinburgh University, Gavin served his probationary period at Gorgie Parish Church.

Gavin is married to Alison and they have three children - Joanna, Murray and Peter.

Gavin is expected to be ordained and inducted into the charge of John Knox in January 2010.

Gavin is so grateful for the welcome that he and Alison received on Sunday and sent this message: “I give thanks to the Lord for His faithfulness to you and to us in preparing us all for this next stage in His purposes for John Knox. The congregation could not have made Alison and me more welcome on Sunday. Thank you so much. We feel so at home among you already and look forward to serving the Lord with you in the New Year.”
