Livingstonia Twinning

Twinning

Hopefully you are aware of the twinning that was formed with Livingstonia congregation during our visit to Malawi in May of this year.

It is part of a Church of Scotland initiative to help form stronger bonds with Christians in other countries.

Since May we have been discussing with the Minister at Livingstonia ideas of things we can put in place to establish our twinning. Below are proposals which we have now agreed on.

Livingstonia congregation was established back in the late 1800’s by Dr Robert Laws from Aberdeen. The Scottish connection has remained strong to this present day. The Malawians are very proud of this fact as are we. Malawi is ranked as one of the poorest countries of the world and this is reflected in the Church at Livingstonia and other establishments it is responsible for within the community.

Establishments run by the Church in Livingstonia.

The Hospital

Primary School

Community Secondary School

Technical College

University

These establishments have virtually nothing to sustain them other than the national church, the good will of others and minimal help from the Government.

Our agreement for growing our twinning is as follows.

1.Regular E Mail correspondence with members of the congregation to establish a personal link.

2.Regular Prayers for both congregations. (Livingstonia is already praying for our vacancy).

3.Establish links with organisations within both churches such as choir, trailblazers, prayer team etc.

4.Financial support for the Church

5.Possible visits in the future. EMMS Bike ride may facilitate this

6.Regular collection of resources to support the Livingstonia Community. (See section below for details)

Resources For Livingstonia

The proposal is to have boxes available after the Sunday morning service at the world mission display for collection of specific items to be sent to Livingstonia. For transportation we currently use the Raven Trust.. They are a small Christian Charity that carries out a tremendous amount of practical work in Livingstonia and the surrounding area.
